NETFIT in the Maldives

NETFIT Netball has partnered with Club MV Netters, Club Green Streets, Netball Association of Maldives and the Maldives Government,  Ministry of Youth Sports and Community Empowerment in what is a first of its kind for women’s sport in the Maldives, running a series of physical and digital programs over a three week period in this idyllic islands nation.

NETFIT Netball founder and CEO Sarah Wall has developed the “Girls Can” campaign in partnership with MV Netters and Green Streets netball to help inspire a generation of young girls in the Maldives to realise their potential, build their confidence, break down barriers and challenge stereotypes, while empowering girls to believe in their abilities on and off the netball court.

Commencing on the 21st November 2023, former elite netballer Wall, together with World Champion Sharni Norder (nee Layton), will commence the 3-week campaign, delivering a series of netball-focused programs in schools and with the community on the islands, upskilling players and coaches alike. The “Girls Can” campaign will integrate digital modules with NETFIT Netball providing free NETFIT App access to all women and girls throughout the Maldives for a 12-month period.

President of the Club MV Netters, Loona Moosa, a passionate driver of this partnership shares her obvious joy on confirmation of the Campaign “We are beyond excited for the NETFIT team to land on our sandy beaches and turquoise waters. As a small island nation with a passion for this sport, it has been a dream to have more exposure to International Netball and talent. We are so fortunate that Sarah and her team are coming over from the best netball nation in the world, to our tiny islands and help us develop this sport through the #GIRLSCAN campaign.”

Fazna Jaleel, President of Maldives Netball Association, is equally excited by the partnership and Sarah and Sharni’s pending visit “We are thrilled to welcome the NETFIT Australia team to Maldives. Their visit represents a significant milestone in our work towards developing Netball as a sport and empowering women and young girls in Maldives. During their visit, they will share their knowledge and expertise, conduct coaching sessions, and engage with our community. This collaboration exemplifies our efforts in the development of this sport. We look forward to the invaluable contributions the NETFIT Team will make during their visit and to a brighter future for Netball in Maldives.”

This groundbreaking partnership for women’s sport in the Maldives embodies all that NETFIT strives to achieve globally, by delivering on their #Investinkids pillars of Play, Educate & Planet

“Women and girls have always faced challenges but that’s never stopped us from working hard to help grow, succeed and achieve together. I am really proud to partner with a group of passionate women aiming to create opportunities and positive change within their community. Collaboration is key and together we are strong and Sharni and I can’t wait to get to work with the amazing women and girls of the Maldives.” – Sarah Wall
