7 Questions To Ask Your Netball Team Before The Season Begins

As a coach, volunteer or assistant, it’s important to establish a connection between yourself and your team, creating a positive and comfortable environment. Each time your players train and play, they should feel comfortable to chat to you in a respectful way and be honest in receiving and giving feedback both ways.

Here are 7 questions to ask your team to understand them better as well as your team to get to know you.

1. ”If I said yes to anything right now, what would you ask me?”

This question helps you get into your players’ world and see what their biggest wish is. Get creative, have some fun with it and tell your players to dream big.

2. “If you could have any superpower, what would you have and why?”

This question uses playfulness to get on your players’ level and learn more about their inner world! Another fun question for their teammates to understand each other more too.

3. “What’s one new thing that you want to learn about netball this year?”

This helps you players develop a growth mindset and remember that we all learn and grow every day. This may also help with your session planning.

4. “What was one kind thing you saw someone do today?”

This encourages kindness as a focus in your team and makes your players aware of ways they interact with the playing group.

5. “If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?”

Playful questions help you get to know your team more intimately and help them stay engaged in off-court banter. 

6. “What was one mistake that you made today?”

Normalise for your team that we all make mistakes every day and every netball session! Mistakes are how we learn and grow.

7. “What were your Pits and Peaks today?”

What was your favourite part of the day today? What was your least favourite part of the day? Understanding netball is a small part of anyone’s lives, this helps everyone understand the bigger picture and what helps lift the teams’ spirits up.
