Even if you end up sitting on the bench for the whole year, you will be learning powerful lessons that will be valuable for the rest of your life.
✧ Discipline
✧ Consistency
✧ Perseverance
✧ Patience
So how did I deal with the frustration of not taking the court!
I would block out negative voice in my head…. the “poor me” and I would use it as motivation to train harder.
✧ So many people these days are thinking “short term goals” and don’t stop to reflect on the big picture.
It’s a good time to ask yourself, “how do you respond under pressure and when things aren’t going your way”?
I’ll tell you what not to do…and that’s “complain” about it.
Find the right time to ask the coach what it is that you need to do to get more court time or become a starter….and then follow that advice!
You have to remember coaches are most interested in the team winning. You’ve got to ask yourself, “what can I do from the bench to help this team win?” One thing you certainly can do is be the best benchwarmer there ever was, which means it’s your job to fire up and cheer on your team.
There’s absolutely no excuse for those sitting on the bench to hang their heads or not pay attention to the game. Get in the game from the bench! What the player playing your position. Show the coach your energy, fire, and enthusiasm. Be that player that comes to the game with a great attitude no matter what. Believe me, this has an influence on coaches.
Sulking or having a pity party will only keep you on the bench.
Trust me, I’ve been there! Remember your NETFIT spirit and never, ever, ever, ever give up! Your time will come.
