5 Tips To Manage Your Energy, Not Your Time

74% of people report experiencing an “energy crisis.” The good news: energy can be managed.

Tip 1: Build Awareness of Your Energy

The answer is focusing on how you cultivate more energy, instead of obsessing over your time.

People with a huge amount of energy have cultivated positive energy by learning to change the stories they tell themselves about the events in their lives. Asking themselves, “What can I control?”

And giving low energy to what they can’t control.

Building awareness of your energy throughout the day helps you understand when you’re at your best and how to tap into that more often.

Tip 2: Do an Energy Audit

Ask yourself:

  • When was your energy the highest? What were you doing at those times?
  • When was your energy the lowest? What were you doing at those times?
  • What new insights do you have about how to better manage your energy?

These questions help you reflect on where your energy goes, and identify patterns so you can take meaningful action.

Tip 3: Build Great Habits

Identify rituals for building and renewing physical energy:

  • Getting to bed earlier
  • Making your bed
  • Exercising more frequently
  • Eating to for fuel

Another powerful ritual that fuels positive emotions is expressing appreciation to others. This practice is beneficial both to the giver and the receiver—whether it’s a note, email, call, or conversation.

Other helpful strategies include scheduling uninterrupted deep work blocks (90–120 mins) and taking real breaks between tasks.

Tip 4: Protect Your Energy

Learn to shield yourself from the things you can’t control.

Self-awareness is key—step aside slightly, breathe out a negative thought, or stand up and use your voice when your gut tells you to.

Focus on your superpowers. When I can’t get my workflow on track, I stop the task that’s draining me and switch to something I enjoy.

This is my trick for sustainable energy—both in work and training.

Final Thoughts

Getting more done isn’t about working longer hours; it’s about managing your energy across all dimensions—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

Take responsibility for your energy by knowing your top strengths and activating them in your tasks and relationships.
