Tay, what’s your secret?
How do you get up early every day?
How do you have so much energy?
Do you have some tips to help me live a healthier life?
These are the questions I get asked all the time.
We all want to like a healthier life, but we also want it to be easy and simple!
Don’t worry, I’ve got your back!
Here are my 6 healthy hacks that you can implement into your routine to make simple but effective healthy habits.
1. Beauty sleep
I have never been a great sleeper, I’m someone who hit’s the pillow and thinks about everything that has happened that day, the jobs I have to do tomorrow or that thing I said 5 years ago (can anyone relate!). The process I have implemented
to help relax my mind and body to get much needed sleep, is to have a set routine before I hit the pillow.
So here it is:
Step 1: Warm shower
Step 2: Skin care routine
Step 3: Salt lamp and diffuser on
Step 4: Write a list of things I didn’t get done that day and anything else that’s on my mind.
Step 5: Give myself a time limit to scroll through my socials, once I reach my time limit, I MUST put my phone down for the night.
Step 6: Focus on my breathing or meditate for at least 5 minutes! Some nights I really struggle to do this, my mind might be going 100 miles per
hour but no matter what, I focus on this for the 5 minutes, before I know it 5 minutes is up and now I am calm and ready to close my eyes.
2. Stay hydrated!
I know you have all heard this before, but that’s for a reason! We need to keep on top of our hydration to live a healthy life, no matter what is going on in my day, my water bottle is with me everywhere I go! Each morning I have a glass of warm water, it helps kick start my day. I also love to add some of my favourite fruits, or lemon, this adds flavour and makes it taste delicious.
My rule is to drink at least 2 litres a day, trust me, watch your skin glow and see how amazing your body reacts!
3. Kick start your early morning workout routine
If you are a morning person or want to try training in the morning, this next hack is one that has helped me jump out of bed and be ready to train with the
sunrise! Trust me on this one, lay your active wear out the night
before. In the morning when your alarm goes off, JUMP UP, get dressed and the hardest part is almost done. Now it’s time to pump the tunes and start your SIMMER workout. I have never regretted an early morning workout, it starts my day off perfectly, and after it I feel ready to tackle anything that comes my way!
4. Snack attack!
Keep on top of your snacks and help reduce those nasty sugar craving throughout the day. I used to nail my breakfast, lunch and dinner but I really struggled to fuel my body correctly with snacks. I would just jump in the car, head to training and have nothing prepared. Once training finished and I was back in the car driving home I would be STARVING, which often resulted in stopping at a petrol station for snacks. Being underprepared, and not making healthy choices did not fuel my body correctly or help my performance. Now, I feel as though I am nailing it, thanks to Jess Spendlove. My late-night cravings have gone, I feel prepared when I’m in the car driving home from training with all my healthy options to snack on!
My go-to snack at the moment is apple slices, topped with peanut butter or yogurt, sprinkled with some of my favourite nuts or dark chocolate and a drizzle of honey!
Yum! My belly is rumbling just thinking out it!
5. Grocery store hack
I wanted to share some grocery store tips that have helped make my food shopping easier and healthier! I would do my weekly shop and never have a plan; I would go down every isle trying to decide what was the “healthiest” option! Does this sound familiar? Let me help you out.
Tip one: My first and most important rule is to never go food shopping when you’re hungry! I think we can all say we have done this before, and you end up putting unnecessary items in your trolley because you are STARVING and just want everything you can see!
Tip two: Plan ahead! I know this can take a little extra time but trust me, it is SO worth it! Sit down each week and write out your shopping list or if you want to be
super organised you can even plan your meals for each night of the week. Then
once you hit to shops you know exactly what to get!
Tip three: Stick to the outside of the store. Most of the time the fresh foods are around the perimeter of the store, if you are someone that finds yourself sneaking unhealthier options in your trolley, try to stick to the outside isles and
watch your trolley fill up with beautiful fresh produce!
6. Breathe in the fresh air
It sounds so simple; however, this is one of my healthy hacks that is SO important and helps boost my mood. Make sure you step outside each day to get fresh air, step away from your desk, shut your laptop or maybe even take some of your phone calls outside. Something so simple can have huge health benefits. Taking time out of your day to get fresh air, look up at the sky and remind yourself to be present can improve you overall wellbeing.
Here are two tips that I use to step outside and get fresh air in my day:
- Take your simmer workout outdoors!
The best part of our program is that you can do it anywhere. So why not get outside and breath in that beautiful fresh air whilst doing your Simmer workout.
- Talk on the phone outside.
I often put on my headphones and walk out the front of our office
whilst I’m on a call. I feel so much more relaxed and calmer because I also
find myself walking around and moving my body whilst chatting away!
I hope my top 6 hacks help you make some simple and easy healthy habits.
